(may 27, 2014) Gold is traditionally an investment of choice when inflation is rising or global tensions are growing. But this year, despite the conflict between Russia and the Ukraine, gold prices haven't moved much, and inflation in much of the developed world is muted. "I'm not buying gold at the moment," international investor Jim Rogers tells The Daily Ticker. "But if the opportunity comes along -- and it will in the next year or two -- I will buy more."

 

 

 

AstraZeneca

(may 25, 2014) The United Kingdom’s opposition Labour party made a call last Sunday for an inquiry into the proposed takeover of British firm AstraZeneca by United States drug company, Pfizer. The party accused the government of "cheerleading" for a deal. The British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca rejected a 63 billion pound ($106 billion) bid from Pfizer on friday, but the U.S.

(may 11 2014) Oil price fell lower than $102 a barrel today after official figures showed United States oil production at a twenty eight-year high & stockpiles start to rise again.

A little after midday in Europe, benchmark US crude for June delivery went down by 43 cents stopping at $101.94 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Just a day ago, the Nymex contract went up by 67 cents to close at $102.37.

(may 13 2014) Global bond rates have dropped to their lowest levels of the year 2014 as central bankers signify their determination to help the earth's largest economies out of their respective slumps, the Wall Street Journal stated.

Investors purchased United State, British & German government bonds, driving the yield on the ten-year Treasury note to as low as 2.5 percent on Thursday -- the lowest ebb in more than 6 months. Government bond prices, which transcend in the opposite direction of yields, went up.

   

 

(may 16 2014)The location of Toyota Motor Corporation’s U.S. headquarters to Plano, Texas, is likely to bring 7.2 billion dollars of economic activity over 10 years, according to an analysis for the city.
The total figure encompasses $4.2 billion from payroll, together with direct & indirect spending, and sales & property tax revenue, according to the research by a Chicago-based audit, tax & advisory company, Grant Thornton. The report of the analysis was released 12th May, when the city, a suburb of Dallas, approved incentives for the company.
