Work takes up a lot of our time. And it is only natural – we are trying to work as much as possible in order to make a good living and in order to expand our horizons by expanding our possibilities. But it is difficult – how are you going to exploit these possibilities if you have no time to even spend some of it with yourself and your family as you are always working or thinking about work.
So, I decided to look into it: what can we do in order to be able to balance our work and personal time?
1. Never bring your work home.
2. Ditch bad habits.
3. Try family sports activities.
4. Stay away from PC on the weekend.
5. If you do not like what you do – try and change your job.
1. Never bring your work home.
Ok. This is going to be a rule with an exception – sometimes you just have to pull an overtime. And sometimes you just have to bring some of the papers home. But try to limit these times as much as possible. Say, once every months or less. This way you are going to ensure that you are going to have a feeling of home in your house, and not a feeling of a home office. Try and understand that your home should be a work-free space and that you need to limit your exposure to work at home as much as possible.
2. Ditch bad habits.
Are you a smoker or casual drinker? Do you prefer to unwind after a long day at the office with a glass of wine or scotch? Try not to. These several moments that you manage to steal for a cigarette, or an evening that you spend in the armchair with a bottle of beer might be spent in the company of your family and friends watching a movie or playing some board games.
Try and live your life with as little bad habits as possible. That not only is going to give you more time in the present, but you are going to be healthier in the future.
3. Try family sports activities.
Some of us prefer other ways for relaxing – for example sports. But going to the gym might not always be the best thing for you. You might be too tired and you might be too distracted with your boss’ speech, that gym is simply not the answer for you.
But even here you might have the answer – try having some sport fun with your family. You can always go to the football field and kick some ball around. Or you can play some tennis. Maybe go to the beach [if you are lucky to have one in your home city]. Simply go for a walk – this is also going to get your blood pumping.
And if you want to be alone, try and stick to your sports schedule. It is going to bring more order into your life and give you a sense of discipline.
4. Stay away from PC on the weekend.
Try and stay away from your computer on the weekends. After all, it is a perfect time for you to catch up on your reading, cook something new, enjoy a cup of tea on the balcony and so on. You can do everything you were dreaming of during the working days. Why delay and derail it with sitting in front of the PC?
Plus, I guarantee that your eyes are going to be very thankful to you.
5. If you do not like what you do – try and change your job.
Someone said – find what you love to do and you are not going to work a day in your life. Well, it is true. If you are going to find what you love and what you are good at, it is only fair to try and make money out of it. If you know, that you are going to be successful and profitable, why not try it?
If you are happy at work, you are going to come home happy. And you are never going to need to find a balance in your life, as it is for sure going to be balanced and harmonic. I guarantee you this.
